Burna Boy’s newfound fame in North America was long overdue. The iconic singer has taken his home country and continent by storm with his groundbreaking studio albums. He emerged in 2013 with his debut album, L.I.F.E., selling over 40,000 copies on the first day of its release. The album was well-received by afro-fusion fans and professional critics. Preceded by singles, “Like to Party,” “Tonight,” and “Always Love you,” L.I.F.E. debuted at number 7 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart.

In 2018, Burna Boy released his third studio effort, Outside. The album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart and spawned six hit singles, including “Rock Your Body,” “Streets of Africa,” and “Heaven’s Gate.” Outside won Album of the Year at the 2018 Nigerian Entertainment Awards. In 2019, Burna Boy performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and won Best International Act at the BET Awards. The year became his official breakthrough into the U.S. music scene, while his fourth album, African Giant, officially entered the Billboard 200 chart.

His 2019 album, African Giant, was a worldwide success as it entered the mainstream charts of nine countries, including the U.S., U.K., and Canada. The album, which featured eight singles, was highly regarded by critics and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the Grammy Awards. Burna Boy dropped his fifth studio record, Twice as Tall, one year later. This time, the album won the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album and entered the charts in 11 countries, including the U.S.
